The Dayton Flyer track team competed on Friday night at Bowling Green State University in the Jane Herrmann Invitational, where the Flyers took home first place with a team score of 150 points.
UD scored 11 first-place finishes at the meet and also received 44 top-ten placers, while freshman Courtney Siebenaller shattered the school record in the pole vault event.
In the sprints, junior Brittany Thomas continued her strong start to the season with a winning time in the 60 meter dash (7.74). She was followed by freshman Kate Muskat, who placed third in 7.81 and junior Lauren McCormick (fourth, 7.83).
Running in the 200 meter dash, junior Lauren O'Brien took the title in 25.89, while sophomore Sam English followed in third-place with a finish of 27.20.
The 400 meter dash was highlighted by senior Amy Kremer, who finished third in 1:03.49, and junior Emily Krizmanic, who took fourth in 1:04.55.
In the 500 meter, junior Sarah Howley took home her first career collegiate title in a time of 1:18.89. Howley was followed by freshman Lorin Miller, who captured third (1:22.37).
Junior Kate Tejkl finished the 800 meter run in a season best time of 2:22.67 to take second overall.
Dayton also received five top-ten finishes in the one mile and 3,000 meter competitions.
Heading the pack in the mile was sophomore Liz Coorey, who won the race in 5:11.87. She was followed by senior Ellen Nienhaus (third, 5:17.67), freshman Lindsey Cummings (fourth, 5:18.70), sophomore Brigitte Sherman (fifth, 5:20.87), and freshman Emily Zimmerman (sixth, 5:20.93).
In the 3,000 meter, it was sophomore Maureen Bulgrin leading the way with a second place finish (10:06.04). Bulgrin was trailed by freshman Elissa Mason (fourth, 10:26.51), junior Alex Miles (seventh, 10:50.71), senior Anne Oltman (eighth, 11:07.45), and junior Kristin Terry (10th, 11:12.25).
The 5,000 meter race was won by senior Jacqueline Jaworek, who had a season best time of 18:45.54.
In the 60 meter hurdles, the Flyers received four top-ten times. Junior Chantee Mathews won overall with her season-best time of 9.19, but senior Andrea Cornell was close behind and took third, clocking in at 9.31. Juniors Micailah Brock (fourth, 9.32) and Lauren O'Brien (fifth, 10.89) also placed in the finals.
UD closed out the running events by winning the 4x400 relay competition with a time of 3:56.13.
In the field events UD also performed well, the Flyers placed four in the top five in the high jump. Sophomore Tiffany Maske took first overall with a leap of 5-06.00, while Kremer followed with a jump of 5-04.25 to take second. Right behind was sophomore Lauryn Fougerousse, who placed fourth (5-02.25), and Krizmanic (fifth, 5-00.25).
Siebenaller, the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week, then followed in the pole vault with a school record jump of 12-05.50 to earn first. Junior Katie DeVault scored second place with a leap of 10-11.75, and freshman Erin Baldinger came in third (10-06.00).
Long jumper Andrea Funk took second overall with by recording a length of 16-10.00, while Kremer (third, 16-07.75) and Krizmanic (fourth, 15.11-50) placed again.
In the triple jump it was Funk again with a first place finish (34-10.50).
The Flyer throwers also had a successful meet. Shot putter Johnna Zaccari took the individual title with a hurl of 43-11.75. Weight thrower Mallory Barnes also placed second with a throw of 55-03.75.
The Flyers will compete next at the two-day Findlay Classic on Jan. 30th and 31st.
