FLYERS ROLL TO THREE-SET WIN OVER TEMPLE

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Flyers picked up a three-set (25-15, 25-10, 25-15) sweep over the Temple Owls at the Frericks Center on Friday night. Dayton improves to 13-2 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic 10.

"I thought we took care of our side of the net tonight," said head coach Kelly Sheffield. "That is something we wanted to do. We talked about standards that we wanted to play to. I thought we played well tonight."

The Flyers had their best outing of the season, hitting a season-high .440 in the match. The Owls, one of the top three offense's in the Atlantic 10 hit .079 on Friday, far below their season average of .226. In addition, UD kept the nation's kill-leader at bay forcing her to a .162 attack efficiency, down from her .293 average.

"We played with a lot of energy and overall we played really well," said junior setter Kacie Hausfeld. "We were flowing very well and we were ready to play tonight."

Several members of the Red and Blue turned in solid performances against Temple. All-American middle blocker Lindsay Fletemier inched closer to her 1,000th kill, after posting 13 on the night. Fletemier sits at 976 after Friday's win. She hit .800 in the match, going 13-for-15 with one error.

Junior outside hitter Amanda Cowdrey posted strong numbers with 11 kills against Temple. Cowdrey fell just shy of her ninth double-double after tallying nine. Middle blocker Becky Novacek had seven kills and one block assist.

Anna Eytchison was strong on the block against TU. Eytchison picked up four block assists, tying Fletemier's total for the night.

"We were able to put Temple in a tough situation with our serving," said Sheffield. "We wanted to match Lindsay and Eytch [Eytchison] up with her [Zhang] and they had four blocks on her. When you put up a wall like that, then they start tipping at that plays to us a little more."

Freshman libero Paige Vargas handled Temple's attack, leading the team with 15 digs. She was the only Flyer to register double-digits in the sweep.

"I thought our setters were great tonight," said Sheffield. "They stuck to the scouting report and made the right decisions and located really well."

Freshman setter Hannah Clancy and veteran Hausfeld equally guided the offense on Friday. Both tallied 17 assists for UD. "Hannah did a great job tonight," said Hausfeld. "We connected well with our hitters tonight and we were able to put them in good situations."

Dayton returns to action on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET against the La Salle Explorers. Admission to the match is free of charge.
