NO. 20/20 FLYERS TAKE ON THE REDHAWKS

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton, which jumped to No. 20 in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today women's basketball polls this week, needs to bounce back in Oxford at Millett Hall against the Miami RedHawks after suffering its first road loss of the season, 68-65 to Toledo Wednesday. UD takes on its second consecutive Mid-American Conference opponent in four days.

SERIES STUFF
The Flyers lead the series, 18-16. Last year, the teams met for the first time in nearly 10 seasons, with the RedHawks coming away with a dramatic 69-66 win in overtime at UD Arena. Jenna Schone led Miami by playing all 45 minutes and scoring 19 points. She sealed the victory by hitting two key free throws with 12 seconds remaining in overtime. UD's Justine Raterman had a double-double of 18 points and 16 rebounds in that game.

SCOUTING MIAMI
Miami is 1-7 going into the contest against the Flyers and have lost its last seven games, most recently a 75-68 setback to Wright State on Dec. 9. UD topped the Raiders 79-58 on Dec. 6 at UD Arena. Freshman Courtney Osborn, who has been MU's leading scorer in all eight games, provides almost a third of the RedHawks' scoring, putting up 20.9 ppg, as Miami averages 67.1 as a team. Osborn also leads the team in assists (29) and steals (22). Sophomore Maggie Boyer adds 9.0 ppg, and senior Ashleigh Brown chips in 8.6 ppg, to go along with her team-high 6.5 rpg. The last time the RedHawks played a ranked team (No. 25 Bowling Green on March 4, 2009) was last season when they won 45-40.

QUICK START
Since becoming a Division I program during the 1984-85 season, the Flyers' 8-1 start to the 2009-10 campaign was the best. The 2007-08 UD squad lost its first two games before rattling off 16 straight wins. The next best start was the 1992-93 team that started the season 6-1. The Flyers started the season against four teams that were nationally ranked or receiving votes, and every one of those games was decided by three points or less. In the five games after, they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.2 ppg.

A WELL-BALANCED DIET
The Flyers, putting up 71.8 ppg, have a very balanced and potent attack with 11 players averaging at least 4.0 ppg. UD is led in scoring by sophomore Justine Raterman, the 2008-09 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, with 12.8 ppg. Senior Kendel Ross averages 10.6 ppg and a team-high 6.9 rpg. Junior Kristin Daugherty is the third Flyer scoring in double digits with 10.5 ppg. Preseason All-Defensive Team selection Casey Nance leads the Flyers in blocked shots (19). Sophomore Patrice Lalor leads UD with 44 assists. Lalor's 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio is second in the Atlantic 10.

YEAR FOR 1,000
Two Flyers are closing in on 1,000 career points. Junior Kristin Daugherty has scored 866 points during her career. In her first two seasons she averaged 380 points per year. Senior Kendel Ross has scored 842 points in her career.

MOVING UP THE CHARTS
With the Flyers' 73-46 win over UIC Monday, Nov. 30, Head Coach Jim Jabir became the third all-time winningest coach in UD women's basketball history with 96 victories. He passed Sue Ramsey (95 wins). He now has 98 UD wins. With 10 more, Jabir will be tied with legendary coach R. Elaine Dreidame for second place with 108 wins.
