The University of Dayton women's track team celebrated a season of unsurpassed success on Sunday evening by honoring three standout runners. Juniors
Maureen Bulgrin and
Liz Coorey were honored with the Most Valuable Runner and Coaches' Award, respectively. Freshman
Marisa Slomski was named the team's Rookie of the Year.
Bulgrin was one of the best runners in the conference in 2009, taking home third at the Atlantic 10 Championships. She was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 and was also named to the Academic All-Conference squad for her excellence in the classroom.
"Maura just had an outstanding season, winning our first three races and finishing in the top-five at all but 2 meets," head coach Ann Alyanak said. "She led the team at every race, and truly established herself as one of the best cross country runners in UD history."
Running right behind her in nearly every race was another equally talented junior in Coorey, who placed 11th at conference and was also named to both All-Conference teams.
"Liz is one of the most consistent runners I have ever coached," Alyanak said. "Whether it is at practice or at races, Liz always gets done what I ask and with a positive attitude. She is a great leader as well and sets a great example for the entire team.
Finally, Slomski was named the team's Rookie of the Year after a season, in which she progressed to help the team win its first-ever conference championship.
"Marisa did a good job of transitioning to collegiate racing this season and really got stronger as the season progressed," Alyanak said. "She worked hard to help the team and I see a bright career ahead of her."
