DAYTON, Ohio -
After a banner weekend at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, sophomore Ashley Cattran will travel to Boston to compete in the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.
It is the first time any UD athlete has ever qualified for a U.S. championship in track, and the field will be littered some of the best competition in the country - including several past and present olympians. Roxbury Community College will host the event, which concludes the USATF's Indoor Visa Championship Series. The event is also the world's oldest indoor track championship, with the first meet ocurring in New York in 1888.
Last weekend saw Cattran capture her first Atlantic 10 crown in the 800 meter race. She has also broken her own school record in the event on four separate occasions this season. Her lowest time of the season (2:07.34) came at the Akron Invitational and has her on the cusp of a sure-fire berth into the NCAA Championships. Cattran currently stands in 19th position on the NCAA performance list and has provisionally qualified for the season-end meet.
Accompanied on the trip by Head Coach Adam Steinwachs, Cattran will participate in the 800 pre-liminary heat on Saturday at 2:40 p.m. EST.
If she qualifies, the sophomore's final will take place on Sunday at 5:50 p.m. EST and will be televised live on ESPN2. ESPN2 will offer coverage of the entire USA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. EST.
