CINCINNATI - The University of Dayton Flyers defeated the Xavier Musketeers 8-5 in 10 innings Thursday to set a new school record for wins in a season with 37. The Flyers also solidified their hold on first place in the Atlantic 10 by improving to 21-4 in league play. UD, who is now 37-15 on the year, entered the game tied with the 2005 ballclub, who was 36-23 overall four years ago.

Dayton also set another single-season record in the contest by blasting four home runs in the win, giving the Flyers 75 for the year. In fact, every UD run in the game scored as a result of a home run. The Flyers entered the game tied with the 1993 club for the previous record of 71.

Jimmy Roesinger's three-run blast in the top of the second inning opened the scoring. Xavier scored two in the third and one in the fifth to tie it up. Marshall McDonald untied it in the eighth with a two-run home run, but Xavier's John McCambridge tied it right back up in the bottom of the inning with two-run shot of his own.

After a scoreless ninth inning, Dayton's Zach Jacob belted the game-winning homer in the top of the tenth with a solo shot over the left center field wall. UD added an insurance run when Marshall McDonald drew a walk and Aaron Dunsmore also took one out to center.

Reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week Cameron Hobson tossed 8.0 innings for the Flyers, surrendering five runs. The southpaw fanned six batters and walked none. With his six punchouts, he moves up to fourth on UD's all-time single-season strikeout list with 78. He is just four away from Luke Trubee's record of 82 set in 2006.

Senior closer Sean Finn pitched two innings of relief to pick up the win. Finn is now 5-3 on the season with six saves. He had two strikeouts and stranded four hitters in the decision.

Roesinger was 2-for-4 with the home run and a triple. Dunsmore was 2-for-5.

At game's end, Dayton had reduced its "magic number" to clinch the A-10 regular-season championship to "1." A Flyer win or a Rhode Island loss this weekend will assure UD of the title. Rhode Island is at Saint Louis for a three-game series starting at 8:00 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Game two of the Dayton-Xavier series, the final regular season Atlantic 10 series for both teams will be played at XU's Hayden Field in Cincinnati on Friday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
