OMAHA, Neb. - University of Dayton alumnus David Grewe earned an NCAA Division I National Championship as an associate head coach when the LSU Tigers defeated the Texas Longhorns in the 2009 College World Series.
"I have known David Grewe through the baseball coaching fraternity the last ten years. Without a doubt, he has represented his alma mater, The University of Dayton, and the institutions that he has worked for during those ten years with hardwork, pride and dignity," said University of Dayton head coach Tony Vittorio.
Grewe helped manage the team to its fifth-ever national title as the Tigers rolled to an 11-4 win over the Longhorns at Rosenblatt Stadium. "It is with great pleasure to know that the University of Dayton now has two former student-athletes, Jerry Blevins and Craig Stammen, who have pitched in the big leagues in the last couple of seasons and now we have David Grewe who is an NCAA Division I Baseball National Champion with LSU," said Vittorio. "This, as well as winning our first regular season Atlantic 10 Championship, only solidifies that it is really exciting to be part of the baseball program at The University of Dayton."
While playing at UD from 1996 to 1998, Grewe saw action at catcher, first base and third base. He hit .317 in as a senior, and was fourth on the team with 28 RBI.
