CHAMBERS SCORES SEASON-HIGH 16 IN UD WIN OVER NAVY

DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton sophomore De'Sarae Chambers scored a season- and game-high 16 points Tuesday night to help the Flyers start the New Year with an 84-54 win over Navy at UD Arena.

The victory gives the Flyers a 12-3 record and marks the end of non-conference play for UD.

Junior Kristin Daugherty scored 10 points and grabbed six boards while freshman Olivia Applewhite chipped in with a career-high eight points and eight rebounds for the Flyers.

As a team, UD shot a season-high 51.5 percent (34-66) from the field, including a season-high 50 percent (8-16) from behind the arc. The Flyer defense scored 21 points off turnovers after forcing 16 Navy miscues. Junior Elle Queen had three of Dayton's six steals.

The Flyers dominated in the paint outscoring Navy 44-24 and UD's bench outscored the Mids' 50-23.

For Navy, K.C Gordon led the team with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Kristin Bowen scored 10.

The Mids started the game strong and jumped to a 4-0 lead. Gordon hit a layup with 14:29 remaining in the first half to give Navy its last lead of the night, 8-7. Dayton used a 13-2 run to pull ahead 20-10 at the 10:02 mark of the first half. Bowen's trey with 8:10 to play in the first got Navy as close as it would get the rest of the night, 20-16.

Chambers, who missed seven games this season with a concussion, came off the bench with 13:30 to go in the half and sparked the team with a fast break three-pointer. In her third game back from her injury, she led all scorers in the first half with nine points in just seven minutes of action. She finished 3-of-4 from behind the arc and helped Dayton tie its season high in three-point field goals made with eight (the other game they hit eight treys was a 77-74 win over then-No. 10 Michigan State on Nov. 13).

The Flyers cruised into halftime with a 42-26 lead.

The second half was much of the same from UD as they pulled away for an 84-54 win. An Applewhite trey - the first of her collegiate career - with 1:12 to play in the game gave Dayton its largest lead of the night, 84-52. The loss was the second in a row for Navy their record dropped to 8-7.

The Flyers will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 9 as they head to Washington D.C to take on George Washington University in their Atlantic 10 opener. Tip Off is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET at the Smith Center.
