DAYTON, Ohio
– The University of Dayton Flyers struck twice to down the Saint Joseph’s Hawks 2-0 at Baujan Field on Sunday. The win gives the Flyers three more points in the Atlantic 10 standings and moves them to 5-5-3 on the season and 1-1-2 in conference play.

“We are happy that we got our first conference win. We needed the three points today. I thought we were a bit sloppy in the first half and didn’t have many dangerous chances. In the second half we put some things together and we had success out wide,” Dayton Head Coach Dennis Currier said. “We got the two goals, but our forwards need to be productive.”

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Tyler Picard tallied his sixth shutout on Sunday. Picard is one away from tying his career total of seven set in 2008.

“Tyler has been solid all year for us and has kept us in games. We wanted to make sure we preserved the shutout for him. We staggered the forwards even though they went two men down so we could win the ball,” Currier said.

Freshman midfielder Marlon Duran notched the game-winning goal in the 48th minute lacing a ball into the right upper corner on a free kick. It was Duran’s second goal of the season.

“I thought everyone was solid today in terms of our roster. Offensively we have to be a little more productive, but ultimately it’s good for us to get a win,” Currier said.

Redshirt sophomore Michael Deyhle connected with his first goal of the season in the 71st minute burying Nate Dombrowski’s rebound to put the Flyers ahead of the Hawks 2-0.

Dayton returns to action for senior night against the Duquesne Dukes on Friday, Oct. 22 at Baujan Field. The Flyers will honor their three seniors, Henrik Karlsson, Oskar Kretzinger and Tommy Watkins before the match. UD hosts St. Bonaventure on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in its final home match of the season.
