Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton volleyball improved to 4-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference play after defeating Fordham in straight sets on Saturday night in front of the largest crowd at the Frericks Center this season (25-15, 25-15, 25-17).

The Flyers (13-3, 4-0 A-10), winners of eight consecutive matches, used a season-high .425 hitting percentage to improve its series advantage over Fordham 24-1. The Rams were held to a .143 hitting percentage and fell to 10-10 and 2-2 in the Atlantic 10.

Senior middle blocker Lindsay Fletemier and sophomore outside hitter Rachel Krabacher led the Flyer offensive attack with nine kills each – seniors Becky Novacek and Amanda Cowdrey were not far behind with eight kills each.

Krabacher paced UD in digs with 11 on Saturday night – one kill away from her sixth double-double of the season. Fletemier recorded four blocks and finished with a .533 hitting percentage – one of four Flyers with attacking percentages over .400 against the Rams. Novacek’s eight kills came on a .571 hitting percentage with four blocks. Cowdrey finished with a .467 hitting percentage, a season-high for the Brampton, Onterio native.

Although Fordham started with a 3-0 run to begin the match, the Flyers stormed back and pulled away early with high statistical marks all around. In the opening set, UD recorded a .565 hitting percentage, 80-percent (12-15) side-out rate, 14 kills, three blocks and 18.0 points which led to a 25-15 victory.

Through the second set, Krabacher hadn’t recorded an attacking error while still leading the team with 15 swings. The Cincinnati native’s five kills in the second set alone helped the Flyers to the 25-15 win, going into the locker room up 2-0.

The third set started off close with 15 ties and seven lead changes before the Flyers ended the match on a 10-2 run. Coming out of a UD timeout with the scored tied at 15, the Flyers used an aggressive offense, and took advantage of six Fordham errors to capture the last set, 25-17.

A Frericks Center season-high 1,802 fans were in attendance on Saturday night.

Dayton travels to Philadelphia, Pa., next weekend to face Temple on Friday at 7 p.m. ET, and La Salle on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
