NO. 18 DAYTON SWEEPS GEORGE WASHINGTON

DAYTON, Ohio –
No. 18 University of Dayton volleyball captured its 12th consecutive win and remained undefeated in Atlantic 10 Conference play after defeating George Washington in straight sets on Friday night at the Frericks Center (25-14, 25-16, 25-10).

Dayton (17-3, 8-0 A-10) used one of the most prolific three-set offensive matches of the season to stop George Washington’s (17-8, 6-2) winning streak at five. The Flyers set a season-high .427 hitting percentage and out-gained the Colonials in kills, 53-to-30. Three Flyers notched 11 kills on the night, led by senior middle blocker Lindsay Fletemier’s .611 hitting percentage and five blocks.

Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Krabacher recorded a season-high .400 hitting percentage with 11 kills and 10 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Senior outside hitter Amanda Cowdrey also put up a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs against Colonials, who fall to 17-8 and 6-2 in the A-10.

Coming out of the first timeout of the match up 9-7, the Flyers used an 11-3 run to take a commanding 20-10 lead. Fletemier recorded six of her 11 total kills in the first set to lift UD to the 25-14 victory.

Freshman Allyson Morey helped the Flyers to an early 6-1 advantage in the second set with two consecutive aces. Coming off the bench, Morey leads the team in service aces with 24 and just seven service errors on the year. UD captured the second stanza by a score of 25-16.

Dayton came out swinging in the third set to take an even larger 11-1 advantage early on and never looked back. Of the Flyers’ first 11 points, eight were kills and one was a service ace from Krabacher. UD went on to record just one attacking error with 18 kills and 34 swings for a .500 hitting percentage in the last set, winning 25-10.

The Flyers currently own a home winning streak of 20 wins at the Frericks Center, dating back to 2008.

George Washington outside hitter Lauren Whyte more than doubled any other player on the court in total attacking attempts on Friday, recording 53 swings and a match-high 15 kills.

Dayton moves to UD Arena for the first time of the season tomorrow to face Charlotte at 4:30 p.m. ET. The Dayton volleyball team will host the third and final Free Kids Clinic at the Frericks Center beginning at noon.

UD Arena and adjacent Welcome Stadium will be the hub for the Flyer faithful on ‘Super Saturday’ as football will host Campbell at 1 p.m., followed by volleyball’s match at 4:30 p.m. At the conclusion of the match, UD men’s and women’s basketball will take to the court for the first time in the annual Red and Blue Scrimmage in UD Arena. Admission is free to all events.
