FLYERS CONTINUE A-10 ACTION AGAINST RHODE ISLAND AND UMASS

With a perfect 2-0-0 start to Atlantic 10 play, the University of Dayton women’s soccer team extended its conference regular season unbeaten streak to 16. The Flyers are 15-0-1 in A-10 action dating back to 2008. In addition, with the two wins over the weekend, Dayton reached a program milestone of 350 victories. UD takes on Rhode Island this Friday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Baujan Field. Dayton is holding its Alumni Night and will honor former players at halftime for their contributions to the success of the program. The first 300 fans will receive a free Flyer women's soccer team poster.

The Flyers take on Massachusetts Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. Dayton will show its support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink warmups and pink shoe laces. The team is also selling pink Dayton Flyer T-shirts with all proceeds going to breast cancer research. The first 300 fans will receive a free Flyer women's soccer team poster.

SERIES INFORMATION
Dayton is 11-3 all-time against Rhode Island. Last season the Flyers registered a 2-0 win over the Rams with goals from Tori Oelschlager and Alli Giner. UD leads the all-time series against UMass 10-4. Last year Dayton topped the Minutewomen 3-0 at Baujan Field. Mandi Bäck had two goals and Lauren MacCormick added another for UD.

FLYER NOTES
• The Flyers are 10-2-0, including 2-0-0 in the A-10.
• Sophomore Colleen Williams leads the Flyers with 27 points (11 goals and 5 assists). Five of her goals have been game-winners. Her 27 points lead the Atlantic 10 and are fourth in the nation. She is also fifth in the nation in goals scored.
• Dayton, currently on a seven-game winning streak, leads the A-10 in shots (208), assists (24), goals allowed (6), goals against average (.49), shutouts (7) and corner kicks (70).
• UD has just two losses this season, both 1-0 setbacks; Colorado College and OSU. The loss to then-No. 21 Ohio State on Sept. 3, 2010 was UD’s first regular season loss at Baujan Field since a 1-0 loss to Rutgers on Sept. 14, 2008.
• Senior Lisa Rodgers is 7-0 with six shutouts for the Flyers. Her 0.28 GAA is tops in the A-10 and fifth in the nation. Her .913 save percentage is seventh in the nation.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
RHODE ISLAND

• Rhode Island is 1-8-1 overall but started Atlantic 10 play with a 1-0 win over Saint Louis on Oct. 1. The Rams suffered a 1-0 loss to Charlotte on Oct. 3 to go to 1-1-0 in the  A-10.
• Six of the Rams’ losses have been by one goal.
• Senior Kaylen Shimoda leads URI in goals scored (3) and points (7). Four other players have one goal each.
• Junior Alexis Veith and senior Adrienne Ruhe Lischke both have two assists apiece.
• Junior keeper Sasha Reiber has given up 16 goals and has a 1.57 GAA. She earned a shutout in URI’s 1-0 win over Saint Louis.

MASSACHUSETTS
• UMass is 4-7-0 overall and 1-1-0 in A-10 action. Like Rhode Island, Massachusetts earned a 1-0 victory over Saint Louis, but suffered a one-goal (2-1) setback to Charlotte to open Atlantic 10 play. UMass plays Xavier Friday.
• The win over the Billikins snapped a five-game losing streak.
• Junior Deanna Colarossi leads the Minutewomen with five goals. She is tied for the team lead in points (11) with Therese Smith who has four goals and three assists.
• Sophomore Emily Cota has nine starts in goal and leads UMass with 41 saves. Freshman Emersyn Pullan has played three games and leads the team with a 0.82 GAA.

UP NEXT
Dayton begins a five-game road swing next weekend with games against Temple and Saint Joseph’s in Philadelphia. Dayton takes on the Owls Friday, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. and the Hawks on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.

WILLIAMS NAMED THREE-TIME A-10 POTW
Colleen Williams has been honored as the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week three times this season. Following the first weekend of the 2010 season (Aug. 23), again on Sept. 20 and now Oct. 4. She currently leads the A-10 in points scored with 27.

WILLY’S WISH
Sophomore Colleen Williams has a heart as big as her scoring ability. She has started Willy’s Wish - Dollars for Dayton. She is asking for Flyer fans to donate just $1 to help a Dayton family in need. “It may seem like a small contribution from your pocket, but put together with several others willing to help someone in need, this will change this family’s life,” said Williams. Collection boxes will be located at each entrance at Baujan Field for UD’s final two home games of the season (Oct. 8 & 10). Williams will appear on Fox 45 this Friday morning, along with sophomore Maggie Hinkle, to promote Willy's Wish and Breast Cancer Awareness. The Flyers will be on air at approximately 8:20 a.m. on  WGRT FOX 45.

SUCCESSFUL SENIORS
CollegeSoccer360 has compiled a list of the winningest women’s senior classes (2007-’10) and the Flyers come in at No. 17 in the nation with 54 wins. When the current seniors were freshmen the Flyers posted a 13-4-4 record. As sophomores they went 15-6-1, and as juniors only lost one game, going 16-1-6. The seniors are 10-2 so far this season.

HIGH FLYERS
Dayton is ranked No. 22 by TopDrawerSoccer.com, No. 38 by the NSCAA and No. 40 by CollegeSoccer360. The Flyers are also ranked No. 2 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region. In the most recent NCAA rankings, Colleen Williams comes in at fifth in the nation for goals scored (11) and fourth for total points (27). Senior goalkeeper Lisa Rodgers is ranked seventh in the nation in save percentage (.913) and fifth in goals-against average (.278).

FLYER SUCCESS
The Dayton women’s soccer program owns an overall record of 350-149-41 (.686 winning percentage) since it became a varsity program in 1984. The Flyers made NCAA Tournament Appearances in 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2009.

DAYTON’S SHUTDOWN “D”
The Flyers return every player on their defense that posted a school-record 15 shutouts in 2009. The Dayton defense had the second-best goals against average (GAA) in the nation at .406 and was paramount in Dayton reaching the 2009 NCAA second round after posting a shutout against No. 23 Marquette. A-10 Defensive Player of the Year Katherine Boone posted a .41 GAA, breaking the A-10 record set by former U.S. National Team goalkeeper Briana Scurry. The Flyers have a league-high seven shutouts to their credit this season. Their goals against average of .491 is 12th in the nation and their shutout percentage of .583 is 18th in the nation.

FLYERS PICKED TO WIN IT ALL
For the second consecutive year, Dayton has been selected to claim the Atlantic 10 women’s soccer title in voting conducted by the league’s head coaches. The Flyers posted an impressive 16-1-6 overall record en route to the program’s sixth A-10 title and second round appearance in the NCAA Championship. Under the direction of reigning A-10 Coach of the Year Mike Tucker, Dayton returns five All-Conference selections including 2009 Defensive Player of the Year Katherine Boone, along with Rookie of the Year Colleen Williams. The six-team A-10 Women’s Soccer Championship will be held Nov. 4-7 at the URI Soccer Complex in Kingston, R.I.

TERRIFIC TUCKER
Head Coach Mike Tucker’s Flyer squads are 123-22-8 in A-10 play. He is the only active coach in the A-10 to achieve more than 100 women’s soccer A-10 wins. In 2009, the Flyers claimed the A-10 tourney title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Tucker was named the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. The Flyers earned a league record 13th consecutive trip to the 2008 Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship and dealt Fordham a 2-1 loss in the semifinals to give Tucker his 200th career victory. He went on to be named the Ohio Coach of the Year. UD has won eight of the 15 conference regular season titles. In addition, his teams have won the A-10 Tournament Championship six times (1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2009). He has never had a losing season as head coach of the Dayton Flyers.
