JUWAN STATEN NAMED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

University of Dayton freshman point guard Juwan Staten was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, Monday, November 22, 2010.

Staten led the Flyers to an undefeated week (2-0) with wins over Akron and Ole Miss. The freshman guard hit a layup with 57 seconds left in overtime to give Dayton its first lead of the game at Mississippi. His eight assists in his first college road game matched his personal best set in the season opener. He finished the game against Ole Miss with four points and four rebounds in 30 minutes of action.

Against Akron, Staten notched his first double-digit scoring game of his collegiate career recording 11 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the floor. He added six assists in the win over the Zips.

Staten is currently averaging 6.3 points and 2 rebounds per game. He has also already recorded 22 assists in just three games, leading the A-10 with an average of 7.3 assists per game. He is the first freshman to start at point guard for Dayton since Edwin Young started the first 12 games of the 1996-97 season.

Dayton is undefeated so far this season with a record of 3-0. The Flyers take on Savannah State tonight, Monday, Nov. 22, 2010 at 7 p.m. ET in UD Arena.
