DEFENSIVE END DEVON LANGHORST EARNS NATIONAL HONORS

University of Dayton senior defensive end Devon Langhorst has been recognized by two national media outlets for his play in Dayton’s 31-25 win over Drake on Saturday.  The win kept UD undefeated and tied for first place with Jacksonville in the Pioneer Football League.  UD is 9-1 overall, 7-0 in the PFL and has won its last eight games.

Langhorst was named Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS National co-Defensive Player of the Week, and one of five Weekly All-Stars by College Sporting News.

The senior from Sidney, Ohio was a part of all six Dayton sacks (three solo and three assisted).  He had 11 total tackles in the game (four solo) and a PFL-record five tackles in the backfield.  He is second in the league and third nationally in FCS football in sacks per game (1.30).  He also leads UD in tackles in the backfield (17.0) and QB hurries (5), is second for the Flyers in total tackles (73), and tied for second in solo hits (31).

Langhorst was co-Defensive Player of the Week with UMass linebacker Tyler Holmes.  Langhorst and Holmes were joined on the Weekly All-Star team by Murray State running back Mike Harris, Yale kick returner Chris Smith and Drake defensive end Dain Taylor.

Dayton will finish the 2010 season on the road, one win away from at least share of its 11th PFL championship in the 18-year history of the league.  UD travels to Poughkeepsie, N. Y. to take on Marist.  Saturday’s kickoff is 12 noon ET.
