WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
• Kendel Ross became the 19th UD women’s basketball player to join the 1,000-point club in Dayton’s 71-63 win over Temple on Feb. 20. Kristin Daugherty reached it a week earlier against UMass on Feb. 13. It’s the first time in UD women’s basketball history that two players have reached the feat in the same season.
• In UD’s nine wins against A-10 conference opponents, the Flyers are outscoring them by an average of +19.4 ppg. UD’s rebounding margin is +5.9 and they are shooting 43.9 percent. In the Flyers’ three A-10 losses their rebounding margin is -11.0 and they shot just 32.7 percent.
• Dayton is 41st in the latest NCAA Women’s Basketball RPI. released on Feb. 14. Of all the Atlantic 10 teams, only Xavier’s is better at 14.
• For the second consecutive season, sophomore Casey Nance leads the A-10 in blocked shots (53).
• At 21-6, UD has now posted three consecutive 20-plus win seasons. It marks just the second time it’s been accomplished in UD women’s basketball history.
• The Flyers have received votes in either the AP or USA Today/ESPN Polls for 16 consecutive weeks.
• UD Head Coach Jim Jabir became the second all-time winningest coach at UD, taking No. 109 with UD’s 72-42 win over Fordham Feb. 11. He passed R. Elaine Dreidame (108) and now with 111 wins he is eight away from tying the all-time leader Linda Makowski, who tallied 119 from 1980-86.
• The Flyers dropped from second to third in the A-10 in rebounding margin (+5.8) after being outrebounded in back-to-back games by Xavier and Temple, first and second in the category. UD has outrebounded 20 of their 27 opponents, and tied GW with 38 boards each.
UD HONORS SENIORS IN FINAL HOME GAME
The University of Dayton plays its final regular season home game Wednesday, Feb. 24 at UD Arena. The Flyers are set to play the Rhode Island Rams in a crucial Atlantic 10 battle and tip-off is 7 p.m. ET. The Rams need a win to keep their A-10 Championship playoff chances alive (the top 12 advance and the Rams are currently tied for 12th) and a UD victory would help to hang on to the No. 2 seed, which ensures a first-round bye. Prior to the game UD will honor its seniors, four-year letter winner Kendel Ross, manager Amanda Fischer and practice player Brett Mershman.

FLYERS’ LAST TIME OUT
Senior Kendel Ross had a memorable game in Dayton’s 73-61 win over Temple on Feb. 20 at UD Arena, becoming just the 19th UD women’s basketball player to reach 1,000 points in her career. She scored a team-high 16 points in a victory that allowed the Flyers to take over second place from the Owls. Ross also had two assists, two steals and two blocks. Kristin Daugherty finished with 12 points and was the only other Flyer to reach double figure scoring, although 11 different UD players reached the scoring column.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
Rhode Island is 9-18 overall and 2-10 in Atlantic 10 action. The Rams are 4-10 when playing on the road this season. After opening the A-10 Conference slate with a 2-0 record, the Rams have lost their last 10 games. Junior guard Megan Shoniker leads Rhode Island in scoring with 12.5 ppg. Senior guard Lindsay Harris averages nearly a double-double of 9.8 ppg and a team-high 9.8 rpg. Harris also leads the Rams in steals (49) and blocks (22). Freshman guard Anisha Wilson has dished a team-high 91 assists.
SERIES STUFF
Dayton leads the all-time series 13-4 against Rhode Island. The Flyers have won the last six meetings, including a 46-36 victory at Kingston, R.I. the last time these two teams clashed on Feb. 26, 2009. In a defensive struggle where UD led 24-11 at the half, Kayla Moses scored a game-high 10 points and Kendel Ross had a game-high 10 rebounds. The Flyers hold a 7-0 advantage over the Rams when playing at home.
2,000 LEAGUES
For the first time in UD women’s basketball history two players reached the 1,000-point milestone in the same season; both junior Kristin Daugherty and senior Kendel Ross have accomplished the feat this season. Daugherty reached 1,000 points at UMass on Feb. 13 and Ross did a week later against Temple on Feb. 20.
20 ROCK SOLID
With UD’s win over UMass on Feb. 13 the Flyers’ record improved to 20-5 overall, and now Dayton has posted three consecutive 20-plus win seasons. It marks just the second time the feat has been accomplished in UD women’s basketball history; the other was when Dayton had five consecutive seasons, winning at least 20 games from 1976-77 to 1980-81, and capturing an AIAW national championship in 1979-80.
KENDEL’S CAREER
Senior Kendel Ross became the first Flyer ever to tally more than 1,000 points, 600 rebounds, 200 assists, 100 steals and 100 three-point field goals made in a career. She had a team-high 16 points against Temple, scoring back-to-back layups, the second at 6:24 in the first half to give her 1,000 points in her Flyer career. Ross becomes just the 19th UD women’s basketball player to join the club. She has made 107 three-point field goals in her career, sixth all-time at UD. She has played in 125 games in her UD career, fifth all-time. Ross’s 85 career blocked shots place her eighth all-time. Her 679 rebounds are also eighth all-time.
DAUGHERTY’S DESTINY
Junior Kristin Daugherty scored the 1,000th point of her University of Dayton career as the Flyers battled to a 74-60 win over Massachusetts Saturday, Feb. 13. She became the 18th Flyer women’s basketball player to reach 1,000 and just the seventh to accomplish the feat by her junior season.
BASKETBALL SMARTS
UD Junior Kristin Daugherty was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine District IV All-Academic Second Team for the second consecutive season. She was also recently honored as UD’s 2010 Presidential Outstanding Scholar Athlete – the highest honor a Flyer athlete can achieve at Dayton.
UD HOOPS FOR HAITI
Wednesday’s contest against Xavier was UD’s Hoops for Haiti game which had 2,503 fans in attendance. All proceeds – which totaled more than $5,000 – from ticket sales and UD Hoops for Haiti; United in Our Faith, Global in Our Mission T-shirts, will go to the Red Cross to support the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.

UD MARKS THE SPOT
Dayton took No. 6 Xavier to the brink, the Flyers leading by as many as 13 points in the first half. And, Dayton’s 42 first-half points were the most Xavier had given up in any half this season.
UNDER 21
The Flyer defense has posted seven halves this season in which they allowed their opponent just 20 points or less; most recently UD allowed just 17 second half points in its 72-42 win over Fordham (2/11/10). Seattle only scored 20 in the first and 17 in the second in the championship game of the Purdue BTI Classic. The Flyers also held high-scoring Georgetown to 20 second-half points in that same tournament. UD held Milwaukee to 19 first half points on Dec. 4. The Flyers held Dartmouth to 17 and 19. In their best defensive game of the season UD held Richmond to 15 and 16 on Jan. 23.
WINNING WAYS
The Flyers are 21-6 overall, their .778 winning percentage is 29th in the nation and second in the Atlantic 10.
