DAYTON ATHLETICS SUFFERS TRAGIC LOSS

University of Dayton News Release

DAYTON, Ohio
-- A prayer service has been scheduled for University of Dayton student-athlete Kacie Hausfeld, 21, and her father Thomas Hausfeld, for 9 p.m. Monday, April 5 in the Frericks Center.

Kacie, a junior early childhood education major and member of the women's volleyball team, and her father, both of Springboro, Ohio, were killed in a plane crash about 1 p.m. Thursday, April 1, near the Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport in Springboro, Ohio.

"I'm greatly saddened by this terrible tragedy," said Daniel J. Curran, University of Dayton president. "Our prayers and deepest sympathy are with the Hausfeld family and all of Kacie's friends and teammates. This is a very close community, and this kind of loss touches us all deeply. In times like these, we come together to support the family and each other."

Volleyball Head Coach Kelly Sheffield added, "Our hearts and prayers go out to Lori, Ali and the rest of the Hausfeld family. Obviously we are all in shock right now. Kacie’s kind-heartedness, sense of humor and can-do approach was one of a kind. We will always love her with all of our hearts. We lost two genuinely special people today and we are all hurting. All of us who know them will try our best to stick together through this."
