Monroeville, PA – The Dayton Flyers finished their 2010 campaign with a 4-2 win over Fordham on Saturday in the Consolation Bracket of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament.

With the win, Dayton’s spring record improves to 6-18 overall, 1-4 in conference play. This success is the first Dayton has tallied against a conference opponent.

The team got off to an early lead after capturing wins at both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions. Matt Sherman and Robert Salcedo paired up at No. 2, recording an 8-4 edge over DeRienzo/Plangger. Austin Wiegand and Robbie McCallum represented the Flyers at No. 3, where they came ahead in a close 8-6 match.

In singles play, Wiegand and Sherman also contributed wins to the team’s effort. Wiegand overcame Austin Shoup at No. 4, 6-4, 6-4. Sherman won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1, while Joe West dominated play at the No. 2 spot with a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
