FLYER TRACK & FIELD SENDS THREE TO NCAA REGIONAL MEET

Schedule of Events

DAYTON, Ohio - The Dayton track and field team has sent a representative to the NCAA Indoor Championships during each of the last two seasons, and now will attempt to extend that streak to the outdoor season. The Flyers qualified three athletes for the NCAA East Regional, which will take place in Greensboro, N.C. from May 27-29 at North Carolina A&T State University’s Irwin R. Belk Track.

This meet serves as the preliminary qualifier for the NCAA Outdoor Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Championships. Over 200 schools and approximately 2,500 athletes will be present at the three-day event.

Ashley Cattran will represent Dayton in the 1,500-meter run after breaking the school record with her time of 4:26.60 at the Atlantic 10 Championships. After making her way to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 800 last season, the junior will be attempting to become the first Flyer to qualify for the NCAA Championships in two separate events. Her first heat will occur at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Another junior, Mallory Barnes, who placed seventh this season at the NCAA Indoor Championships to earn All-American honors, will be vying for a second straight appearance at the national meet. She will compete in the hammer throw and shot put this weekend. The qualifiers for the shot put begin on Thursday at 3:00 p.m., while Barnes will begin the hammer throw event on Friday at 11:00 a.m.

Freshman Katie Nageotte, who won the A-10 Indoor and Outdoor Conference Championship in the pole vault, will attempt to be the first Dayton vaulter to make it past regionals. The rookie set a school record in late-April with her mark of 12-09.50. The pole vault begins on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
