UD WINS THE BEST PROMOTIONAL VIDEO AWARD AT THE 2010 COLLEGE SPORTS MEDIA AWARDS

ATLANTA – The University of Dayton Men’s Basketball Top 25 Preseason Video earned the award for Outstanding Promotional Video or Campaign at the 2010 College Sports Media Awards.

This is the first video award Dayton has won at the College Sports Video Summit. The Top 25 piece was also one of nine finalists for the 2010 Video of the Year Award.

“This is a wonderful national honor for our athletic department, men’s basketball program and staff,” said Michael LaPlaca, Assistant Director of Marketing/Multimedia. “To be recognized on a national level for our promotional work, creativity and vision is incredibly gratifying.”

UD partnered with Mind Over Media, a multimedia production company out of Pittsburgh, to produce the preseason video, additional men’s basketball feature videos and create the GoDaytonHoops.com website.

The Mind Over Media crew worked with the Flyer men’s basketball players and staff to shoot green screen footage, incorporate highlights from the previous season, input graphics and embed a moving audio track to create the piece.

"Mind Over Media is extremely excited about the recognition the Dayton Flyers Men’s Basketball program has received on-and-off the court this season," said Roy Cheran, Mind Over Media Vice President. "The 2010 NIT Champions, Coaches and Athletic Department Staff are committed to excellence for their student-athletes. Mind Over Media has been privledged to help share that story with the Flyer Faithful across the globe. It has been a tremendous pleasure to work with them in the design and production of their award-winning promotional video and web content and we look forward, with great anticipation to next season."

Once production was completed, the video eventually was distributed to national media members, through the Internet on YouTube and DaytonFlyers.com and the GoDaytonHoops.com site.

The video not only brought excitement to the Flyer Faithful, but helped the program achieve the overall goal, a preseason national ranking. The Flyers were ranked 21st by the Associated Press, and 22nd in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

It was the first time since the 1967-68 campaign Dayton earned the distinction of being ranked in a major poll in the preseason.

Dayton had three videos nominated for awards. The other two videos that made the final cut were “The Bond,” which showcased the tight-knit relationship between the Miami Valley community and the men’s basketball team, and the feature video “Coach, The Story of Brian Gregory.”

As part of the College Sports Video Summit, the Sports Video Group and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), recognized the top collegiate videos recognizing excellence in video production at all levels of college sports.

More than 130 videos were submitted for entry from Division I schools, ESPN, CBS and athletic conferences. Only 54 videos made the cut to the finals.

In the Outstanding Promotional Video or Campaign 2 category, Dayton’s preseason video beat out entries from Seton Hall, Appalachian State and Austin Peay. Other award winners included representatives from the University of Oregon, ESPN, University of Miami, St. Cloud State University, The Southland Conference, Fairfield University and CBS Sports.

The Sports Video Group was formed in 2006 to support the professional community that relies on video, audio, and broadband technologies to produce and distribute sports content. Leagues, owners, teams, players, broadcasters, webcasters, and consumer technology providers have joined the SVG to learn from each other, turn vision into reality, implement new innovations, while sharing experiences that will lead to advancements in the sports production/distribution process and the overall consumer sports experience.
