THREE FLYERS EARN NSCAA ACADEMIC ALL-REGION HONORS

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced the Scholar All-America and Scholar All-Region winners for the 2010 season. 

The University of Dayton had three representatives on the NSCAA Scholar All-East Region Team. Junior defender Kathleen Beljan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) was a First Team selection and also earned First Team Scholar All-America honors.

Junior midfielder Emily Kenyon (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) and senior forward Kelly Blumenschein (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) both earned NSCAA Second Team All-East Region Honors.

Beljan, a chemical engineering major with a 3.59 GPA, was also named to the 2010 A-10 Academic All-Conference Team, and is a two-time selection to the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District IV First Team. UD’s first-ever women’s soccer player named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List, she is also an Academic All-Ohio First Team honoree.

Blumenschein carries a 3.72 GPA in marketing and entrepreneurship with a minor in Spanish.  She was a 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Top 30 finalist and a three-time Atlantic 10 selection. She was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Teams for three consecutive years (2008, 2009 and 2010).

Kenyon, a chemical engineering major with a 3.78 GPA, is a two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 Second Team honoree (2009 and 2010). She is also a two-time selection to the A-10 Academic All-Conference Team.

The Flyers finished the 2010 season with a 19-3-1 record and their second consecutive NCAA Second Round appearance. They also repeated as Atlantic 10 regular season and tournament champions.
