DAYTON'S WINGEIER & KALTENBACH NAMED FCS ACADEMIC ALL-STARS

Complete List of ADA Academic All-Stars

CLEVELAND -- University of Dayton seniors Brandon Wingeier and A.J. Kaltenbach have been named to the 2010 Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team. The Flyer duo was among 52 seniors selected. It was the second straight year Wingeier, a redshirt senior, had been honored.

In addition, Wingeier was one of eight finalists from the Academic All-Star team who were selected for the 10th Annual FCS ADA's $5,000 postgraduate scholarship. Two student-athletes will receive postgraduate scholarships during the Association's annual membership meeting held in conjunction with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention, being held at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Florida, June 16-18, 2011.

UD was one of just 10 schools to have the maximum two players named ADA Academic All-Stars, and the only Pioneer Football League team with two.

Wingeier is a 2006 graduate of Newark High School in Newark, Ohio. He carries 3.78 GPA in Mechanical Engineering. He placed fourth on the team in sacks in 2010 with four. He also had 36 tackles (14 solo), 9.5 tackles for loss, three QB hurries and one forced fumble.

Kaltenbach is a 2006 graduate of St. Francis DeSales High School in New Albany, Ohio. He carries a 3.54 GPA in Business Marketing. The Flyers were 10-1 this season, and finished tied for first in the Pioneer Football League. It was UD's 11th PFL championship (including ties) in the 18-year history of the PFL. The rest of the league has 13 titles combined. The Flyers have been ranked in both major polls for the last two weeks. They rank No. 23 in the Sports Network/Fathead.com poll and No. 25 in the FCS Coaches Poll. This season marks the first time the Flyers have been ranked since the 1997 season.
