MALOOF'S WALK-OFF DOUBLE GIVES FLYERS FOURTH CONSECUTIVE WIN

Box Score

WILMINGTON, N.C.
– Sophomore Kathleen Maloof’s two-out, walk-off double was the difference in the University of Dayton’s 3-2 win over the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs in the final day of the UNCW Hughes Bros. Tires Seahawk Classic. The Flyers (5-4) are on a four-game winning streak.

“Alysha pitched a great game and our defense did a good job of limiting their runs,” Dayton Head Coach Cara LaPlaca said. “We were able to stop them in the seventh from adding to their total, which gave us a chance for our late game heroics.”

Maloof was 3-for-4 and had the game-winning RBI. Maloof built on an already impressive weekend, which was first highlighted by a 4-for-8 day on Saturday in which she had five RBI.

“Kathleen was solid all weekend long with her outfield play and her offense. She is becoming a leader as a sophomore and we are relying on her to play at a high level,” LaPlaca said.

Freshman left-handed pitcher Alysha Isaacson (3-1) pitched her second complete game in 24 hours. She had five strikeouts and allowed two earned runs. Isaacson was also the spark that the Flyers needed in the seventh inning to rally their way to a win.

“Alysha’s ability to step in with two-outs and produce without anyone on base was key,” LaPlaca said. “It allowed Kathleen to step in and seal the deal when we really needed it.”

Trailing 2-0, with two outs in the final frame, Isaacson belted a double to left field. Moments later, a fielding error on Emily Stegeman’s at-bat brought Isaacson home for the first run. With the bases loaded, Maloof knocked home the winning runs on her fourth double of the year, as the Flyers swept GWU at the Seahawk Classic.

Dayton travels to Lubbock, Texas for the Red Raider Classic on the campus of Texas Tech. The Flyers will face Howard University and No. 19 Texas Tech in the tournament. Live Stats and recaps will be available at DaytonFlyers.com.
