Bracket | A-10 Championship Central
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton baseball will be the No. 3 seed in the six-team field of the Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship which begins on Wednesday, May 25 in Camden, N.J.
For the first time this season, Dayton (30-20, 16-8) will face sixth-seeded La Salle (27-24, 13-11) to open the tournament on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. ET at Campbell’s Field. The Flyers concluded the regular season on Saturday with a 5-4 win over Rhode Island to clinch the seventh of eight conference series this season. The win also gave UD its fifth 30-win season in the last seven years.
Dayton and La Salle will meet for the first time since the Explorers swept Dayton in Philadelphia to begin the 2010 conference season. La Salle finished league play in a three-way tie for fifth with No. 5 Richmond (26-25, 13-11) and St. Bonaventure – which came up on the short end of the A-10's tie-breaking procedure.
No. 2 Rhode Island has a first round bye in the winner’s bracket and will face the winner of Dayton and La Salle on Thursday 3:30 p.m. ET.
Charlotte (39-14, 17-7) will try and become the first top-seed team to win the A-10 Championship since 2007 after wrapping up its second consecutive regular season title.
The A-10 Baseball Championship title has gone to non-bye teams the last two seasons. Saint Louis won the title as a No. 4 seed in 2010, and Xavier won the title as a No. 3 seed in 2009.
Dayton returns to Campbell’s Field – the site of this week’s Championship – for the second time this season. The Flyers took two of three games from St. Joseph’s from April 22-24 this season. Campbell’s Field is the home of the Camden Riversharks – an independent professional team with the Atlantic League.
