DAYTON LOSES FIRST A-10 CONFERENCE SERIES

DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton baseball lost its first Atlantic 10 Conference series of the season after a 5-1 loss to Xavier on Sunday afternoon at Woerner Field at Time Warner Cable Stadium. Xavier takes the series two games to one.

Prior to Sunday, Dayton had started the conference season by winning a program-best five consecutive A-10 series.

Musketeer starter Vinny Nittoli held the Flyers hitless through six innings before junior Bobby Glover broke up his no-hitter with a leadoff homerun in the seventh inning which put UD within one run, 2-1. Junior C.J. Gillman added a single in the next at-bat, but the pair of hits would be the only of the day for the Flyers.

Nittoli (7-1) finished his outing after 7 2/3 innings with five strikeouts. Seth Willoughby pitched the last 1 1/3 innings for Xavier to earn his ninth save of the season.

Junior right-handed pitcher Mike Hauschild (8-5) started on the mound for the Flyers, throwing 8 1/3 quality innings with seven strikeouts and allowing four runs.

Xavier added three insurance runs in the last two innings behind a eighth inning triple from Phil Bauer and a ninth inning two-run homerun from Ben Thomas.

Dayton is now 26-11 overall and 11-7 in the A-10 as Xavier improves to 25-21 on the season and 10-8 in the A-10. UD moves into a tie for third place in the league standings with La Salle with two conference series remaining in the season.

The Flyers return to action in a mid-week road game at Ohio on Tuesday, beginning at 6 p.m. ET. UD’s next conference series is at St. Bonaventure beginning on Thursday of next week.
