DES MOINES, Iowa – University of Dayton senior thrower Mallory Barnes finished her collegiate career on Friday with an 18th place finish at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Barnes had a mark of 185-00, topping her 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championship mark of 180-00. Earlier this season, she set a school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 196-03 at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Preliminaries.

Her performance caps a remarkable collegiate career in which she was named an All-American in the weight throw during her junior and senior seasons. Barnes was also a three-time Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Field Performer during the indoor season and a two-time A-10 Most Outstanding Field Performer during the outdoor season.

Barnes’ performances were also a big impact in the Flyers placing first during the A-10 indoor season and second in the outdoor season.

With Barnes’ performance on Friday, the 2011 track and field season has now concluded for the Flyers. It is the second consecutive season that the Flyers have had a Top 20 finish in the hammer throw.
