Schedule
DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton men’s soccer head coach
Dennis Currier has announced the 2011 soccer schedule, which features teams from the SEC, BIG EAST and Big 10, as well as nine home games at Baujan Field.
“The strong tradition of our program has allowed us a tremendous opportunity this Fall to compete against a nationally competitive schedule. Our first three games are on the road against some of the nation's best teams,” Currier said.
The Flyers will open the season on Aug. 26 against the Kentucky Wildcats at the UK Soccer Complex in Lexington, Ky. The Flyers will follow that with a road trip against a pair of teams that appeared in the 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Tournament.
Dayton travels to Bloomington, Ind. for a 5 p.m. contest on Sept. 2 against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic. Notre Dame advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship in 2010 and earned the sixth seed. UD will also face tournament host Indiana, last year’s No. 14 seed, who advanced to the third round of the NCAA Championship before falling to national champion Akron. The Flyers will face the Hoosiers on Sept. 4 at 2 p.m.
“It is an honor for Dayton to be invited to the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic which has a very prestigious history. The strength of this schedule will allow us a legitimate chance of earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament if we can be successful.”
UD will open its home schedule with the Marriott Classic at Baujan Field on Sept. 9 and 11. The Flyers will face Houston Baptist in their home opener on Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. Dayton will then face Western Illinois at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 11.
The Flyers will play Eastern Illinois, UW-Green Bay, UIC, Oakland and SIUE to close out their non-conference slate.
The La Salle Explorers will open the Flyers’ Atlantic 10 season on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. That game will be part of a four-game home stand at Baujan Field which includes Fordham on Oct. 9, George Washington on Oct. 14 and Richmond on Oct. 16.
Dayton hits the road to face Saint Joseph’s on Oct. 21, Temple on Oct. 23, Saint Louis on Oct. 28 and Charlotte on Oct. 30.
Senior night will be on Nov. 5 against rival and defending Atlantic 10 Champion Xavier at 5 p.m.
This year’s Atlantic 10 Tournament will be hosted by the Saint Louis Billikens on Nov. 10-13 at Hermann Stadium.
The Flyers will report for preseason camp in early August. For more information on the Flyers visit the men’s soccer page on www.DaytonFlyers.com.
