DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton baseball Head Coach Tony Vittorio announced the signing of Cincinnati-area high school senior Michael Smith for the 2012 season on Thursday.

“We are excited about the addition of Michael Smith to our program and of his potential of being a solid, impact player on our team,” Vittorio said.

Smith was a three-year starter at Princeton High School and most-recently hit .302 with 12 RBI during his senior season with the Vikings. This summer, the first baseman is hitting .325 with five homeruns, 35 RBI and 19 doubles for the Playground All-Stars of Cincinnati.

Smith is also a 2011 Perfect Game Underclass All-American Honorable Mention, on the 2011 Perfect Game All-Central Region Team and one of Buckeye Scout’s Top 100 prospects of 2011.
