GREEN BAY, Wis. – University of Dayton volleyball won its seventh consecutive season-opener after beginning the 2011 season with a 3-1 win over North Dakota in the Green Bay/Country Inn & Suites Tournament on Friday evening (16-25, 25-12, 25-19, 25-20).
Junior
Rachel Krabacher paced the Dayton offense with 21 kills – a four-set career high – on a .348 hitting percentage. Krabacher also notched 12 digs to begin the season with a double-double after recording 10 in 2010.
Junior libero
Paige Vargas recorded a match-high 16 digs and sophomore
Megan Campbell went for a match-high of seven blocks. In her first career start as a Flyer, freshman
Isolde Hannan recorded three kills and two blocks.
The Flyers held an 8-1 advantage in aces over the Fighting Sioux. Krabacher, Campbell and sophomore
Allyson Morey each had two aces.
North Dakota (0-1), the reigning Great West champions, saw a 15-match winning streak come to an end.
Dayton (1-0) continues the Green Bay/Country Inn & Suites Tournament tomorrow with two matches. The first against James Madison at 11 a.m. CT/12 p.m. ET and the tournament finale against host Green Bay at 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. ET.
