NO. 19 DAYTON SWEEPS JAMES MADISON

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Sophomore middle hitter Megan Campbell had a career-high 16 kills as the 19th-ranked Flyers swept James Madison in the Green Bay/Country Inn & Suites Tournament on Saturday afternoon (25-20, 25-18, 25-16). 

Campbell registered her 16 kills on a .789 hitting percentage while adding two blocks. Senior Yvonne Marten and junior Rachel Krabacher each had 13 kills in the Flyers’ first sweep of the season. Krabacher finished with her second double-double in as many matches with 10 digs on Saturday.

In the first set, Dayton jumped out to an early 11-2 lead against the Dukes, which led to a 25-20 set win. Campbell had seven kills in the opening set – three of which were off JMU over-passes. The Flyers had a .414 team hitting percentage in set one.

Despite an early 11-5 Dayton lead in the second set, JMU battled back to tie the set at 14. Krabacher paced UD with 40 attacking attempts on Friday and was able to pull the Flyers to a strong finish in the second set – registering five kills during an 11-4 run to give UD a 25-18 set victory.

The Flyers and Dukes again battled to a 14-14 tie in the third set, and again Dayton came through late with an 11-2 run to take the final set, 25-16. Four of sophomore Shayne Brown’s five kills can during Dayton’s 11-2 run which ended the match.

Dayton now leads the all-time series with James Madison, 3-0. The last meeting between the programs before Saturday was 1989. JMU was picked to finished second in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Dayton will look to sweep the field at the Green Bay/Country Inn & Suites Tournament tonight against host Green Bay in an 8 p.m. ET first serve.
