ACVA Top 25

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Dayton volleyball remained in the top 25 for the 22nd consecutive week, coming in at No. 23 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 poll released on Monday.

Dayton opens its home schedule this weekend with the 2011 Dayton Marriott Flyer Classic, featuring three top 25 teams (No. 23 Dayton, No. 20 Michigan, No. 24 Florida State) plus Pepperdine who received 19 votes in this week’s top 25.

Dayton (4-2) was the runner-up in last weekend’s highly-competitive State Farm Illini Classic in Champaign, Ill. The Flyers won seven sets in the Classic by sweeping Houston, followed by narrow five-set losses to now-No. 4 Illinois and (rv) Tennessee.

Junior outside hitter Rachel Krabacher and junior setter Samantha Selsky were named to the Illini Classic All-Tournament team. Selsky recorded the nation’s first triple-double of the season against Illinois with 44 assists, 10 kills and 13 digs. Krabacher registered 70 kills over three matches and renewed her kills career-high with 28 against Illinois.

Last week Dayton was No. 21. In the preseason the Flyers were tabbed No. 19 – marking the second consecutive season in which Dayton has been nationally-ranked in the preseason. Dayton’s highest position in the AVCA poll is No. 12, which came on the weeks of Oct. 15, 2007 and Nov. 22, 2010. Dayton's streak of 22 consecutive weeks in the top 25 began on Nov. 23, 2009, ranked 24th.

California maintained its position at No. 1 for the second consecutive week.

The 2010 Dayton volleyball squad became the first team of any sport in Dayton history to be nationally ranked for the entire season after finishing with a No. 15 ranking in the final AVCA poll.
