LEXINGTON, Ky. - The final rankings were released in both the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll and the RPI with the University of Dayton coming in at No. 19 in each.
The Flyers finished the year 27-5 overall and 14-0 in the Atlantic 10, while making it as far as the second round in the NCAAÂ Tournament. There they lost to eventual national runner-up Oregon on its home court.
Dayton claimed both regular season and tournament championships in the Atlantic 10, led by the play of three repeat All-Americans in Samantha Selsky, Megan Campbell, and Rachel Krabacher. Head Coach Kelly Sheffield also repeated as A-10 Coach of the Year in 2012.
On top of their perfect record in conference play, the Flyers also boasted a 19-match winning streak leading up to the second round meeting with Oregon.
Dayton fell six spots from the last poll (Nov. 19) with 437 points. The Flyers finished just ahead of Western Kentucky, Ohio State, and Wichita State. All five losses this season came against Top 25 opponents. Oregon finished No. 2 overall behind National Champion Texas. Stanford, Texas, and Penn State took the top three spots in the RPI rankings.
During the season, Dayton was in the Top 25 poll every week, reaching as high as No. 10 nationally. This now marks the 61st straight week that UD has either been ranked or mentioned in the AVCA Poll, dating back to Nov. 23, 2009.
