FOUR FLYERS EARN COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS

DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton women’s track and field and cross country student-athletes Erin Baldinger and Emily Zimmerman were tabbed as Capital One / CoSIDA Academic All-District® V First Team selections, while Lindsey Cummings and Lizzie Gleason earned distinction on the second team.

With their first team selections, Baldinger and Zimmerman are eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. Zimmerman earned a place on the 2011 Academic All-American® team.

Baldinger, a senior, is a 2012 Atlantic 10 Indoor & Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-Conference selection. A Waldo, Ohio native, Baldinger ranks fourth all-time at Dayton in the heptathlon and the pentathlon. Earlier this spring she earned the Coaches Achievement Award and was a 2012 A-10 Indoor Track and Field Academic All-Conference selection. Baldinger finished sixth in the heptathlon and eighth in the javelin at the 2012 A-10 Outdoor Championships. Baldinger has a 3.98 GPA, and graduated with a degree in dietetics.

Cummings, a senior, ranks third on UD’s all-time outdoor performance list in the 3,000 meter run and second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. She ranks fifth on UD’s all-time indoor performance list for the 5,000 meter run and placed 5th at the 2012 A-10 Championships in the steeplechase. Cummings is also an Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection. The Saline, Mich. native holds a degree in International Studies and History.

Gleason finished fourth in the steeplechase and 12th in the 1,500 meter run at the A-10 Championships. Gleason, a sophomore, also earned Academic All-Conference honors during the 2012 Outdoor track and field. She holds UD’s steeplechase record and a share of the 4x800 outdoor record at UD. She won the steeplechase in the Weems Baskin Invite in South Carolina this spring. Gleason has a 3.98 GPA and is a Pre-Med major.

Zimmerman, a senior, was a 2011 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-American® and was the 2011 Presidential Scholar-Athlete winner as UD’s top female student-athlete. She was the 2011 A-10 Outdoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year and holds UD Track records in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter run (outdoor). Zimmerman ranks fourth all-time at UD in the 1,500 meter run (outdoor) and third in the 5K (indoor). She maintained a 4.00 GPA for the duration of her collegiate career. Zimmerman also ranked in the top three at UD in cross country during the 2011 season and finished 21st in the 2011 A-10 Cross Country Championships. Zimmerman graduated with a 4.0 GPA and a degree in Adolescence to Young Adult Education.

Capital One / CoSIDA Academic All-Americans® for Cross Country and Track Field will be announced on June 21. Only members of the Academic All-America Committee and the CoSIDA Board of Directors vote at the national level to determine the Academic All-America teams.
