SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The No. 11 Dayton Flyers enjoyed another sweep at the University Plaza Invitational, this time winning 25-21, 25-23, 25-10 against the host Missouri State Bears.
Senior
Samantha Selsky netted a double-double with 34 assists and 12 digs as the Flyers improved to 5-0 overall.
Freshman
Alaina Turner and senior
Rachel Krabacher each added nine kills for the Flyers. However, the Dayton defense dominated limiting the Bears to a .080 hitting percentage for the match.
“I don’t think we came out right from the get go with our game plan, but at the end of games one and two, I thought we played really well when it was on the line,” head coach Kelly Sheffield said.
Through the first five matches of 2012, the Flyers have played 17 sets and only lost two of those. Another streak intact for Dayton is its August dominance. Dayton is 14-0 the last four seasons under head coach Kelly Sheffield in the month of August.
For Selsky, it was her 11th career double-double in a Flyer uniform.
The Bears, who advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, dropped to 1-4 overall. Andrea Beaty led Missouri State with 11 kills.
“That is a really talented team and once they gain some experience as the season progresses, they are going to win a lot of matches,” Sheffield said.
Dayton wraps up the University Plaza Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 1. The Flyers will face the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles at 4 p.m. ET.
