– The University of Dayton men's and women's basketball teams held their annual Red and Blue game on Saturday afternoon before an estimated crowd of 3,500 people.

The women's team took the floor first and played two halves that were 10 minutes each. The Blue Team defeated the Red Team 41-40 as freshman Andrijana Cvitkovic was fouled in the act of shooting as time expired. She stepped to the line and sunk a free throw to give the Blue Team the victory. Cvitkovic finished with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Blue Team consisted of senior Cassie Sant, Junior Andre Hoover, junior Ally Malott, freshman Andijana Cvitkovic and freshman Celeste Edwards. Sophomore Kelley Austria, sophomore Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova, sophomore Amber Deane, redshirt freshman Morgan Berry and freshman Christy Macioce were on the Red Team.

Both teams were red-hot from the field, especially from beyond the arc. The Blue Team shot 50.0% (15-of-30) from the field and 50.0% (6-of-12) from beyond the arc. The Red Team shot even better from beyond the arc (58.3%, 7-of-12) but just 40.0% (14-of-35) from the field.

Hoover, who was a First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection last season, led the Blue Team with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field. Sant added nine points on 4-of-5 shooting and Edwards had eight points and three assists.

Berry led the Red Team with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Macioce added nine points and Deane also had nine points.

The men's team tipped off their intrasquad scrimmage after the conclusion of the women's game. The game consisted of two 12 minute halves as the Red Team prevailed over the Blue Team 49-37.

In the first half the Blue Team consisted of senior Devin Oliver, senior Brian Vonderhaar, junior Alex Gavrilovic, junior Jordan Sibert, sophomore Devon Scott, sophomore Khari Price and freshman Kyle Davis. Senior Vee Sanford, senior Matt Kavanaugh, sophomore Dyshawn Pierre, sophomore Bobby Wehrli, freshman Kendall Pollard and freshman Scoochie Smith were on the Red Team.

The men's team also added a new player to their squad this season in 13-year-old Trevin Gray. Trevin is part of a program called Team Impact, which is an organization that matches youngsters with severe medical conditions with athletic teams.

The Red Team led the Blue Team 23-13 at the half. Smith and Sanford led the Red Team with seven points each. Oliver led the Blue team with six points.

In the second half the teams made some adjustments. The Red Team consisted of Scott, Kavanaugh, Sibert, Smith, Vonderhaar and Pollard. The Blue Team consisted Davis, Price, Gavrilovic, Pierre, Oliver, Wehrli and Sanford.

The Red Team shot a blistering 61.3% (19-of-31) from the field while the Blue Team shot 42.9% (15-of-35) from the field.

Sanford and Scott led all scorers with 14 points each. Sanford shot 6-of-11 from the field and Scott shot 6-of-7 from the field and pulled down seven rebounds. Oliver and Smith each added 12 points and five rebounds. Kavanaugh also pulled down five rebounds and added six points.

The women's team returns four starters from a team that went 28-3 and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament and won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title. The men's team also returns four starters from a team that went 17-14 last season.

The women's team will open their season on Friday Nov. 1 as the take on the University of Indianapolis at 7 p.m. ET at UD Arena. The men's team will be back in action at UD Arena on Saturday Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. as they take on Ryerson in their first exhibition.
