FLYER WOMEN'S SOCCER WRAPS UP SPRING SEASON

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women’s soccer team finished up the 2013 spring season with a 2-1-2 record. Dayton outscored opponents 10-4 in the five matches.

The Flyers notched wins over Bowling Green (3-0) and Marshall (3-0) and tied Morehead State (1-1) and Miami (2-2). UD’s lone loss was to Purdue (2-1).

“Although Purdue was our only loss, I felt it was our best performance as a team,” said UD Head Coach Mike Tucker. “We held a ton of possession, our passes were sharp and we held our form. Other than our finishing, it was our best game of the spring.

“The Purdue coach said after the game that if worked well in front of the goal we could have had seven scores,” added Tucker. “It was an interesting, entertaining game where we had seven or eight opportunities one-on-one with the keeper and just didn’t finish. We really work on that in the fall, and that was one of our biggest assets last fall.”

The Flyers also held a one-day prospect camp around the Purdue game.

“We had some very good players on campus,” said Tucker. “They were able to see a great college game and they were seeing the things we ask of our players are the same things we were focusing on in the camp. It was a great camp.”

UD finished the 2012 regular season 14-4-2 and 7-1-1 in the Atlantic 10. They lost four players from that squad and return a solid core for 2013.

“In terms of individual players we saw people make great strides from the fall season to now. I’m really happy with the development of some of our players,” said Tucker. “Off the field, we’ve been stressing really coming together as a team and as a family, said Tucker. “At the end of the spring season, we’ve really turned a corner and are in the right direction to have another great fall season.”

The Flyers start the 2013 fall season with two exhibition matches: at Michigan on Friday, Aug. 16 at 3 p.m. and home on Baujan Field vs. Miami (FL) on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 1 p.m. in a rematch from last season.
