THREE UD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYERS RECEIVE NATIONAL HONORS

The University of Dayton had three players honored by Full Court, headlined by Amber Deane who was named to the Full Court All-America Freshman Second Team.

The Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year Deane started every game for the Flyers and averaged just shy of ten points per game (9.9 ppg). She shot an astounding 55.6 percent from the field – tops among Division I freshmen and among the top 10 in the country for all D-I collegians. Deane, from Lathrup Village, Mich., was named the Most Valuable Player of the Maggie Dixon Classic after scoring a career-high 27 points with five rebounds and two steals in the championship game against No. 25 DePaul.

Full Court NCAA Division I All-American and Freshmen All-American teams are determined by balloting of Full Court editors, correspondents and analysts from across the country.

Senior Sam MacKay and sophomore Andrea Hoover were other Flyers also honored by Full Court. MacKay, from Dublin, Ohio led the team in assists at 4.9 per game was also second in assist/turnover ratio in the Atlantic 10 (1.8). Hoover, from Bellbrook, Ohio, was the team’s leading scorer at 12.9 ppg as well as the Atlantic 10 leader in 3-point field goal percentage shooting at an astounding .403 from behind the arc.

The 2012-13 University of Dayton women’s basketball team earned the program’s first regular season Atlantic 10 championship title. They set the school-record for greatest number of wins in a season (28-3) since becoming a Division I program. The Flyers were ranked in the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls for 18 consecutive weeks, peaking at No. 11 in both. UD advanced to its fourth consecutive NCAA tournament with the highest seed in program history at No. 7. Dayton advanced to the NCAA Second Round with a thrilling double overtime 96-90 win over host St. John’s.
