FLYER FOOTBALL HOLDS TONY ERNST MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton football program held its 13th Annual Tony Ernst Memorial Golf Outing at Yankee Trace last weekend.

Over 100 golfers, including former players from as far as Denver, participated in the outing this year. The event helps raise money for coaching internships within the University of Dayton football program.

Tony Ernst, a former quarterback who wore No. 6 and was a 1995 UD graduate, passed away unexpectedly just a few years after his graduation. As a tribute to his spirit and character, the Ernst Family established the Tony Ernst Graduate Assistantship Football Coaching Position in 1999. The position is being funded by the annual memorial golf tournament.

“It’s a great day for the Flyer football program,” head coach Rick Chamberlin said.” We had a number of former players and friends of the University come out and help us honor Tony and add to his legacy by funding our coaching internship program.  Thanks to the Ernst family, some very fine young coaches, including five members of our current staff, have been able to have a great ‘kick start’ to their coaching careers.”
