University of Dayton Head Coach Jim Jabir announced that Philadelphia native and national champion Tiffany Johnson will play for the Flyers.
“Tiffany is a strong addition for us,” said Jabir. “We are looking for her to provide a steady influence and leadership to our young team. She’s a great person and we are happy to have her join our program.”
Johnson, who will be a junior during the 2013-14 season, comes to the Flyers after playing the 2012-13 season at NJCAA Louisburg College in Louisburg, N.C. She started 32 games and led the Hurricanes to a 32-3 record and the 2013 NJCAA DII National Championship. Johnson, a team captain at Louisburg, scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the national championship final. She averaged 8.6 ppg and 4.2 rpg during the season.
She played in 11 games at Drexel in the 2011-12 season.
Johnson was named a First Team All-Public League selection as a senior at Prep Charter. She helped her team to three appearances in the PIAA State Tournament during her career. She was named the 2010 Women’s Basketball Player of the Year by the South Philadelphia Review and First Team All-Southeast Pennsylvania by the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Johnson, who is attending classes this summer at Dayton, adds to the Flyers’ strong group coming in for 2013-14. The incoming freshman class of Andrijana Cvitkovic, Celeste Edwards and Christy Macioce is ranked No. 20 in the nation by All-Star Girls Report, the highest ranking ever for the UD women’s basketball program.
