DAYTON BASEBALL ADDS 2012 A-10 CHAMPION GILLMAN TO COACHING STAFF

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team and head coach Tony Vittorio have announced the addition of 2012 Dayton graduate CJ Gillman to the coaching staff for the upcoming season.

Coming off a stint in the minor leagues, Gillman returns to Woerner Field to help coach at his alma mater. The former team captain and outfielder was a key member of the Flyer squad that won the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The Littleton, Colorado native earned Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference honors as a junior and senior while setting single-season records in hits (91) and at-bats (241) in 2011.
As a volunteer assistant, Gillman will focus on helping with the catchers, outfielders, baserunning, and offense.

Coach Vittorio talked about what Gillman will bring to the coaching staff.

"CJ exemplified what a Dayton Flyer baseball player is all about in the classroom, community, and on the baseball field when he competed for us in the 2011 and 2012 seasons," said Vittorio. "He was an outstanding player, but more importantly, an outstanding leader on and off the field.  Obviously, we are excited about having him on our coaching staff."

Gillman talked himself about what this opportunity meant to him.

"It's an honor to be able to return to my alma mater and continue the success of the University of Dayton baseball program," Gillman stated. "I am proud to be working with a great coaching staff, and look forward to the opportunity to help lead this team to another championship."
