DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Women's Track and Field welcomes five new additions for the 2014-15 season.
Emily Leonard, Kate Crawford, Claire Attea, Erin Reese, and Jenni Rossi make up the incoming class for the next year. The Flyers are currently in the middle of their indoor season, but are excited about these future prospects.
Here is some information on each individual.
Emily Leonard - Maine South High School, Ill.
Emily Leonard is a four time 3A All-State performer in cross country. This past fall she won the regional cross country meet en-route to her fourth consecutive All-State performance in cross country. She is the only runner in the history of her school to qualify for and be All-State all four years of her high school career. She is a two time conference runner-up and one time conference champion in cross country. She is a three time state qualifier in track for the 3200m and holds her school record in the event.
Kate Crawford - Assumption High School, Ky.
Kate is a four-time cross country state championship team member in the state of Kentucky. She also was a member of the first cross country team in Kentucky to qualify for Nike Cross National Championships. She helped her team place 10th, 16th, 18th, in the Nike Cross National Championships during her sophomore, junior and senior cross country seasons. She was also in the Top 25 all four years of high school in the state meet.
Claire Attea - Immaculata High School, NY.
Claire is a two time league champion in the state of New York and a four time state championship qualifier in cross country. She helped pace her team to two league championships in cross country and three on the track. She has qualified in the mile for the New York State meet during her sophomore and junior seasons.
Erin Reese - Mount Prospect High School, Ill.
Erin Reese is an Illinois 3A state qualifier in the discus and two time state qualifier in the shot put. This past year she was runner-up at sectionals in both the shot put and discus and earned all-state recognition in the shot put with a fifth place finish.
Reese has also been top five in the shot put at the Illinois indoor state meet twice.
Reese currently holds Prospect High School's school record in both the shot put and discus and is an honor roll student.
Jenni Rossi - Bishop Fenwick High School, Ohio.
Jenni Rossi is a two time all-Ohio performer in the shot put and a state qualifier in the discus. She has three district and three regional championships to her credit.
Rossi has amassed six conference championships in the shot put and discus through three seasons at Bishop Fenwick High School. For her efforts, she has twice been named as her conference's Athlete of the Year.
She owns her school's record in both throwing events, and is a member of the National Honor Society.
These five future Flyers make up the beginning of the 2014-15 signing class for Dayton women's track and field.
The team is currently in the middle of its 2014-15 campaign and heads to Indiana this weekend. The Flyers will compete in the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships next weekend.
