DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team will head northeast to Columbus Wednesday for a showdown with Ohio State at 6:30 p.m.
GAME PREVIEW
  • Dayton enters the contest with a 12-17 record overall and a 7-13 non-conference mark. The Flyers are also 5-9 away from home, but have won three of their last four contests. Most recently, Dayton is coming off a series win over UMass in which the Flyers took two of three games.
  • Ohio State is 18-13 on the season with a 10-4 home record and 16-7 non-conference record. The Buckeyes are currently on a three-game losing streak, but earlier in the season was on a seven-game winning streak. Most recently, OSU was swept by Nebraska on the road.
DAYTON NOTES
  • Dayton offensively is batting .264 as a team with a .375 slugging percentage, a .351 on-base percentage, and 55 stolen bases.
  • The Flyers are led by reigning A-10 Player of the Week AJ Ryan, who is batting .417 with two home runs and 21 RBI, while Ryan Berry has chipped in five home runs and 14 RBI. There are eight different Flyers with double-digit RBI totals this season.
  • The Dayton pitching staff has an ERA of 6.76 as a team with 150 strikeouts compared to 124 walks.  Nate Harris anchors the bullpen with three saves while Bryce Lahrman has two and Joe Wahl has one.
  • On the mound for the Flyers will be freshman righty Nick Gobert, who has a 1-1 record, an 11.57 ERA, and two starts under his belt. His last outing with a 5 2/3 inning performance in which he allowed just two runs.
 
OHIO STATE NOTES
  • Ohio State has a team average identical to Dayton's with a .264 mark, and a slightly lower slugging percentage (.354) and on-base percentage (.347). OSU has stolen just 11 bases this season as well.
  • Ryan Leffel leads the team with a .388 average, but it is Troy Kuhn, with 21 RBI and four home runs, and Jacob Bosiokovic, with 20 RBI, that provide the biggest offensive threat to the Flyers.
  • The Buckeye pitching staff has had a strong season, with a 3.46 ERA and 180 strikeouts in 278 2/3 innings of work. OSU has pitched four shutouts, two complete games, and has eight saves as a whole.
  • Getting the start for the Buckeyes will be junior right-handed pitcher Trace Dempsey. He has made one start in 14 appearances, as well as posted a 6.27 ERA, a 1-2 record, and four saves.
 
PREVIOUS MATCH-UP
  • The last time these two teams met was on March 21, 2012 when Ohio State came out on top 11-7 at Woerner Field.
WEATHER
  • The forecast for Wednesday will be sunny and in the high-50s with 0% chance of rain.
