GAME PREVIEW• The University of Dayton baseball team will take on George Mason in the opening round of the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET at the Billiken Sports Complex in St. Louis, Mo.
• The Flyers finished the regular season with a 24-28 record overall and a 14-13 A-10 mark. Dayton is 1-4 this season in neutral contests and coming off a 2-1 win over George Mason this past Saturday. The Flyers went 1-2 against the Patriots in 2014.
• George Mason enters the tournament with a 30-20 record on the season and 16-9 A-10 record. The Patriots are the No. 3 seed after finishing behind Saint Louis and Saint Joseph's in the regular season. In five neutral contests, GMU went 4-1 this year. The Patriots are looking to rebound from the 2-1 loss to Dayton in their season finale.
WHO TO WATCH - DAYTON• The Dayton offense is batting .268 as a team with a .381 slugging percentage and a .356 on-base percentage. The Flyers have also stolen 89 bases and recorded 107 doubles this year while hitting 26 home runs.
• Leading the way for UD is
Robby Sunderman, who has team-highs in .362 average, 50 runs scored, 75 hits, 17 doubles, and 20 steals.
Alex Harris has chipped in a .337 average, 32 RBI, and 15 steals while
Aaron Huesman and AJ Ryan have 40 and 37 RBI respectively.
• The UD pitching staff has combined for a team ERA of 5.86 through 52 games, including nine complete games and 11 saves. The Flyers have struck out 273 batters while walking 208.
• In the Atlantic 10 conference, the Flyers rank fifth in batting average, 11th in team ERA, and fourth in fielding percentage. Individually, Sunderman ranks sixth in batting average while Harris is ninth. Sunderman also is first in hits, third in runs, third in doubles, and third in steals.
Ryan Berry is also tied for second in home runs and Harris is sixth in runs scored.
DAYTON IN THE A-10 TOURNAMENTThe last time the Flyers competed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament Dayton went on to win the conference title with a win over Richmond back in 2012. That victory earned UD a berth in the NCAA Tournament and gave the Flyers their first conference tournament championship in school history.
This year marks the eighth A-10 Tournament appearance for Dayton and its third in the past four years.
WHO TO WATCH - GEORGE MASON• George Mason has recorded a .271 average, a .363 slugging percentage, and a .362 on-base percentage through 50 games.  The Patriots have 120 extra-base hits and 37 steals as well.
• GMU is led by Blaise Fernandez's 38 RBI and 35 runs scored and Chris Cook's four home runs and 29 hit by pitches.
• The Patriots' pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.31 and nine shutouts this season. GMU has 315 strikeouts while walking just 133 in 448 2/3 innings in 2014.
• In the Atlantic 10, George Mason ranks fourth in batting average, first in team ERA, and fifth in fielding percentage. Individually, Jared Gaynor leads the A-10 in ERA with Anthony Montefusco is third in the league in the same category, while leading the A-10 in strikeouts. Fernandez leads the conference in doubles as well.
LAST MEETINGThe Flyers and Patriots just completed a three-game series this past weekend in Dayton with George Mason taking two of the three contests. UD did win the finale 2-1 though and ended the regular season on a high note.

NATIONAL RANKINGSDayton currently ranks 18th in the nation in doubles per game and 22nd in total doubles. The Flyers are also 15th in both stolen bases per game and total steals. UD is ninth in the country in hit by pitch as well. Individually, Sunderman ranks 40th in runs per game and 36th in total runs while being 62nd in doubles and 53rd in steals. Ryan is 36th in doubles per game and 76th in RBI per game.
Alex Harris ranks 23rd in on-base percentage and 15th in hit by pitch. Buettgen is fourth in complete games and tied for 24th in starts with Dant.
LAHRMAN, SUNDERMAN NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICTDayton had a pair of student athletes receive Academic All-District honors for their achievements in the classroom this year. Seniors
Bryce Lahrman and
Robby Sunderman were both named Academic All-District, which automatically makes them finalists for Academic All-America.
