JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
– The University of Dayton women's track and field team started its weekend at the opening round of the NCAA national meet Thursday.

Junior Aly Weeman was the lone competitor for the Flyers on Thursday, performing in the hammer throw event. The Yorkshire, Ohio native recorded a distance of 52.69m.

That mark was good enough for 41st overall in the competition.

Weeman finishes a breakout season for the Flyers in which she set a personal record and recorded the second best hammer throw distance in school history. She was also the Atlantic 10 Champion in that event as well.

Head Coach Jason Francis talked about Weeman's performance.

"We are off to a good start to the NCAA first round meet," stated Francis. "Aly competed well against some of the best hammer throwers in the nation. Today was a great learning experience for Aly and is something she can build on going into her final season next year. We are also very excited for Ashley and Nicole to compete tomorrow."

The Flyer track and field NCAA appearance continues Friday with Ashley DeMange competing in the pole vault at 12 p.m. and Nicole Cargill competing in the 3000m steeple chase at 9:30 p.m.
