ASHLEY CAMPBELL TO PLAY IN U-20 WORLD CUP FOR CANADA

Campbell Was Named The 2014 Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year

Vaughan, Ont. - University of Dayton women's soccer player Ashley Campbell was one of 21 players selected to the Canadian National Team today at a press conference in Vaughan, Ont. The squad will represent Canada in the 2014 U-20 Women's World Cup which will be held this August in Canada.

Campbell posted this to her Instagram account: "After 17 years of playing the sport that I fell in love with, I finally get to represent my country at the U20 women's World Cup in Canada after officially being named to the final roster today! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me along the way from coaches to my amazing family and boyfriend to teammates and beyond. It all starts August 5th at BMO field in Toronto and I can't wait to see what this amazing group can do together"

A total of 16 countries – the host and 15 qualifying nations – will take part. Canada is in Group A with Ghana, Finland and North Korea. The opening match for Canada will be on August 5, 8 p.m. ET at the National Soccer Stadium (also known as BMO Field) in Toronto.

Campbell was one of six midfielders named to the team. The Bradford, Ontario native scored 18 goals her sophomore season on her way to being named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year. She has 30 goals in just two seasons at UD.

The head coach of Team Canada is Andrew Olivieri.

Canada's second group match is on August 8 against Finland in Toronto before closing out the round robin phase in Montreal's Olympic Stadium on August 12 against North Korea.

The matches will be shown on CBC.
