DAYTON --
The University of Dayton football team will take to the road for the first time in 2014, making the short drive to Pittsburgh to square off a tough Duquesne ballclub on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Kickoff at Art Rooney Field is at 12 noon ET.

Dayton won its season opener 23-14 over the Georgetown last week behind a Flyer record 301 yards rushing by Connor Kacsor.  Duquesne is a deceiving 0-2.  The Dukes had opportunities to win against both FBS foe Buffalo and 21st-ranked Youngstown State.

The Flyers were picked to finish second in the Pioneer Football League in this year's preseason poll of the league's coaches.  This is the 22nd season of the PFL.  Duquesne was also predicted to place second in the Northeast Conference.

Dayton finished 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the PFL in 2013.  The Flyers finished tied for fourth in the Pioneer Football League and had their 36th winning season in the last 37 years last year.

UD is led by four First Team Preseason All-PFL selections – quarterback Will Bardo, defensive end Pat Dowd, running back Connor Kacsor and placekicker William Will.  Bardo and Dowd are the 2014 Flyer co-captains.

The Flyers entered the season with the third-best winning percentage (.753, 116-38) in FCS football since 2000 AND have produced the most football Academic All-Americans (22) at any level of competition in the same time frame.  The top five are Harvard (.784), Montana (.770), Dayton (.753), North Dakota State (.735) and Appalachian State (.711).

The Flyers snapped a three-game losing streak in the Duquesne series with a 23-20 win in Dayton last year on Sept. 7.  Duquesne led 20-14 at halftime, but the UD defense limited the Dukes to three first downs in the second half.  The football relationship between Dayton and Duquesne dates back to 1920.  Duquesne won the first meeting, Dayton the next three contests in 1923, 1924 and, after a 77-year hiatus, the series resumed in 2001.  The Dukes lead the series 6-5. The last seven games have been decided by 10 points or less.

Duquesne returns 17 starters from last year's 7-4 team, including nine on defense. This is Duquesne's seventh season as a scholarship-granting football program. With the move to the NEC, in 2008 Duquesne originally offered 18 scholarships.   That number has increased to 37 this season.

UD returns home on Sept. 20, closing out the three-game non-conference schedule on Family Weekend against Robert Morris.  Kickoff is at 1 pm ET.
