NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference released its men's soccer Players of the Week and named University of Dayton sophomore Lalas Abubakar as the Rookie of the Week.

Abubakar played every minute for the Flyers in central defense this past weekend, helping Dayton to a 1-0-1 record at the UAB "Soccer for A Cure" Classic in Alabama. The sophomore defender anchored the back line as they did not allow a goal the entire tournament, making it three straight shutouts for the Flyers. Abubakar is one of two Dayton players (Chris Froschauer) that has played every minute this season.

In his first collegiate campaign for the Flyers, the native of Ghana has already recorded an assist and earned All-Tournament honors for his efforts for UD this past weekend.

This is the first individual award for Dayton during the regular season.

The Flyers (2-2-1) will take on IUPUI on the road this Friday at 7 pm.
