Game Notes
GAME PREVIEW• The University of Dayton baseball team continues its season this weekend, despite a last-minute change of schedule due to weather across the midwest and east coast. The Flyers were scheduled to face High Point in a three-game series, but will instead take on Morehead State in Georgia. The three-game neutral series will start with a 6 p.m. contest on Saturday. The series continues Sunday at 3 p.m. and will wrap-up Monday with a 12 p.m. start.
• The Flyers have gotten off to a slow start to the 2015 season, going 0-3 at the Spartanburg Classic last weekend. With a number of new players in different positions, Head Coach
Tony Vittorio was positive about the experience gained and growth in the early stages of the season. Dayton is looking to get back on the right track this weekend in Georgia.
• Morehead State on the other hand, has gotten off to a strong start this season with three wins in a four-game set with San Diego to open the year. The Eagles did drop the finale on Sunday, but outscored San Diego 27-16 in the four-game stretch. Head Coach Mike McGuire is in his third year at the helm.
WHO TO WATCH - DAYTON• The Dayton offense batted .238 through the first three games of the season with 17 runs on 25 hits and five doubles. UD also stole three bases in five attempts while drawing 14 walks.
• Seniors
Zach Schira and
A.J. Ryan led the way for the Flyers, batting .455 and .364 respectively. Schira led the team with five hits and four RBI while Ryan hit a pair of home runs. Seniors
Sergio Plasencia and
Alex Harris each added four hits apiece as well, posting .333 clips.
• Pitchers
Noah Buettgen, Charle Dant, and
Bradley Horn will get the nods as the starters this weekend. Buettgen and Dant both pitched over 100 innings last season while Horn is a junior transfer from Murray State.
• As a pitching staff, Dayton has combined for a 7.56 ERA, but has struck out 26 batters in 25 innings. The Flyers have used 10 different pitchers through three games, including eight newcomers.
• Defensively, Dayton struggled in the opening weekend with a .928 fielding percentage and eight errors compared to opponents' marks of .948 and six errors.
WHO TO WATCH - THE OPPONENTS• Morehead State has found some success in the early part of the season, posting a .277 batting average, a .454 slugging percentage, and a .367 on-base percentage. The Eagles have totaled 10 doubles in four games to go with three triples and three home runs.
• Kane Sweeney led the team with seven hits in the opening series while Chris Robinson had a team-high .400 average and Nick Newell had six RBI.
• Morehead has a talented pitching staff, combining for a 3.79 ERA through four games. Juniors Aaron Goe (1.35 ERA, 1-0) and Matt Anderson (3.00 ERA, 10 k's), as well as sophomore Luke Humphreys (5.40 ERA, 5 inn.) will most likely get the starts against the Flyers.
• The Eagles have been susceptible to the stolen base however, allowing five of the six attempts against them to be successful.

HONORARY FLYER CAMERON NEALDuring the 2013 season, the Dayton Baseball program announced the addition of
Cameron Neal to its family. Cameron is a local boy that has battled a brain tumor. He was partnered up with the Flyers through the Friends of Jaclyn foundation. What started out as a young boy meeting with a few players has blossomed into a tight-knit relationship that not only benefits Cameron, but the players as well. With his own locker and uniform, Cameron will be seen at as many of the games as he can attend this season. He is not part of just a community service project, but truly a member of the Dayton Baseball team.
