AKRON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's track and field team finished up a successful weekend at the 2014 Akron Invitational on Saturday.
"We had a strong showing this weekend," said Head Coach
Jason Francis. "The women are in a great place as we move towards the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships in two weekends."
Dayton started the day off with the 3000m event in which sophomore
Kathleen Keene finished eighth (10:42.65) and freshman
Kate Crawford finished 13
th (10:55.74). Keene set a personal record in the event as well.
In the one mile blue heat, junior
Olivia Albers cruised to a third-place finish with a time of 5:10.45.
Junior
Paige Yaeger finished 12
th overall in the 400m.
The weight throw saw a pair of Top 6 finishes by senior
Miranda Nelson and freshman
Erin Reese. Nelson placed third with a throw of 16.92m. Reese took sixth with a mark of 15.89m, a new personal best.
Senior
Chelsea VanHook led the Flyers in the 800m, a strong event for UD this weekend. The Mason, Ohio native finished third and posted a time of 2:17.65. Freshmen
Grace McDonald and
Brittany Fisher finished seventh and eighth respectively with McDonald setting a new PR.
Senior
Maya Pedersen competed in a loaded field in the 200m and finished 20
th.
In the high jump blue division, senior
Isolde Hannan tied a personal best with a height of 1.55m, earning eighth place.
The shot put saw three more Flyers compete as they all finished in the Top 8. Freshman Jenni Rossi led the way with a mark of 13.43m and a third-place finish. Fellow newcomer
Erin Reese posted a distance of 13.33m and finished fifth while senior
Miranda Nelson finished eighth.
Senior
Katie Ollier recorded a time of 5:07.66 in the one mile run, coming in seventh overall.
The reigning Atlantic 10 Champion in the weight throw
Aly Weeman had a career day with a new personal best of 19.11m in the event. That put her in sixth place and was the third-best mark in Dayton history.
In the pole vault, senior
Ashley DeMange finished in 11
th.

Megan Collins ran the 3000m gold heat and posted a time of 10:34.40, which put her in ninth.
The high jump completed the day for the Flyers with senior
Rebecca Maj hitting a mark of 1.65m, picking up seventh place in the process.
Overall, it was a valuable weekend for Dayton Women's Track and Field as they continue their march towards the final stretch of the indoor season.
The Flyers will compete in their final warm-up before the Atlantic 10 Championships next weekend at the Hoosier Hills Classic in Bloomington Friday.
