Box Score CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – The University of Dayton baseball team finished their series with Murray State Sunday with a 6-2 victory, taking two of three from the Racers.
The Flyers won the opener before Dayton evened the series on Saturday. The conclusive game was played on Sunday.
In the bottom of the first, the Flyers took a 2-0 lead thanks to a sacrifice fly by junior
Aaron Huesman and an RBI single by senior
Zach Schira.
Dayton doubled its advantage in the third inning when Schira added his second RBI single of the contest. Junior
Cameron Silva followed suit with an RBI single of his own to make it a 4-0 lead for the Flyers.
The Racers cut into the Dayton lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Flyers added a pair of insurance runs, pushing the margin to four in favor of UD. Schira bunted to move the runners over, but a fielder's choice and an error allowed two more Flyers to score.
After six runs on 11 hits, Dayton picked up a victory in the game and series. The Flyers also committed no errors in the contest and had strong pitching across the board.
Schira led the offense with a 2-for-4 day and two RBI with Dineen chipping in two more hits and a run. Huesman and Silva provided RBI as well.
Starter
Bradley Horn (W, 1-0) tossed five innings and allowed two runs on three hits while fanning six and walking none.
Sam Brunner (S, 2) earned his second save in as many outings with two shutout innings. Freshmen
Danny Hentz and
Tyson Schnitkey saw time on the mound and maintained Dayton's lead.
The Flyers (3-6) will return home to host Miami (Ohio) Tuesday at 3 p.m., weather permitting.
