Box Score 2 DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team finished up its series with Buffalo on Monday by winning game one 9-7 and losing game two 3-2.
The Flyers split both doubleheaders and improved to 5-8 on the season.
GAME 3 – DAYTON 9, BUFFALO 7 – 7 inningsThe Flyers were victorious in the first game of the night and the third game of the series after scoring six runs in the third and three more in the fifth.
Buffalo opened the scoring in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly after loading the bases via a pair of walks and a hit. That put the visitors on top 1-0.
Dayton answered in the bottom half of the frame when junior Cam Silva singled to record UD's first hit. Senior
Greg Rhude then followed up with his first home run of the year, a two-run shot to left. Senior
Alex Harris continued the assault with a two-run triple that put the Flyers ahead 4-1.
The inning was not done though and junior
Aaron Huesman added to the lead with an RBI single to right and sophomore
Robbie Doring hit a sacrifice fly to left. When the third was complete, Dayton held a 6-1 advantage over the Bulls.
Buffalo got a pair of runs back in the fourth inning with a two-run home run of its own. That closed the gap to 6-3. The Bulls then evened the score at 6-6 with a three-run home run in the fifth.
The deadlock didn't last long though as senior
A.J. Ryan ripped a two-run double down the right field line, giving the Flyers an 8-6 lead in the bottom of the fifth. An RBI single by Silva put Dayton ahead three runs going into the final two innings.
Buffalo scored one run in the top of the seventh, but wouldn't get any closer as Dayton picked up a 9-7 victory in game one.
Dayton racked up 11 hits from seven different players. Harris and Rhude led the way with two RBI each while Harris, Dineen, Huesman, and Silva had multi-hit games. The Flyers struck out just four times in the contest compared to Buffalo's seven k's.
Starter
Bradley Horn pitched four innings, giving up three runs on just four hits while striking out four. Freshman
Tyson Schnitkey (W, 1-0) tossed an inning in relief and redshirt freshman
Jason Johnson threw 2/3 of an inning. Junior
Sam Brunner (S, 4) closed out the final 1 1/3 innings and earned his fourth save.

GAME 4 – DAYTON 2, BUFFALO 3 – 7 inningsBuffalo took the series finale from Dayton, 3-2.
For the fourth game of the series, Buffalo was the first team to score with an RBI double in the top of the second. The Bulls added another run in the third with a one-run triple, taking a 2-0 lead.
Huesman put Dayton on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly, scoring Harris from third. That cut the deficit in half for UD.
Later in the inning, Schira ripped a ground ball to the Buffalo third baseman, who misplayed it, allowing Doring to score from second. That tied the game up at 2-2.
In the fifth, Buffalo took the lead back by scoring on a wild pitch by Dayton. The Flyers trailed by one once again.
Dayton was unable to make a comeback and dropped the final game of the series, 3-2.
As a team, the Flyers had five hits compared to Buffalo's six in the contest. Harris went 2-for-3 while Huesman provided the lone RBI.
Starter
Cal Rohrman (L, 0-1) pitched 4 2/3 innings in the first start of his Dayton career, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out four. Sophomore
Nick Gobert came out of the bullpen and pitched the remainder of the game and threw 2 1/3 shutout innings with two strikeouts.
The Flyers (5-8) will return to action this weekend when they host Ball State for a four-game series starting Friday.
